Description
Dallas Notes was a biweekly Dallas-based underground newspaper edited by Stoney Burns (the penname of Brent Lasalle Stein) between 1968 and 1970. Initially founded as Notes From Underground at Southern Methodist University in 1967, the paper covered topics ranging from New Left politics, hippie/drug culture, sex, music, alternative comics, and antiwar activism. Burns was subjected to repeated harassment by the Dallas police, who charged the him with obscenity and tried to shut down the paper's publication and distribution--a contoversy that ultimately resulted in a Supreme Court case. After is ceased publication, the paper was followed by another radical newspaper, H.O.O.K.A. (Humanitarian Order of Kosmic Awareness).
