Description
We started this zine with the idea to establish an awareness of labor issues among the retail and service industry workers in the Pacific Northwest, particularly the Portland area. Even with so many existing labor publications, we still filnd a void where representation of this population is concerned. Our goal is to cultivate a grassroots community of workers who question current artificially constructed notions of what constitutes a fair wage for the service industry, which employs bike messangers, midwives, gas station attendants, strippers, retail clerks, janitors, hotel workers, food service workers, and so on. These are the workers for whom the so-called booming economy has provided no stability or improved standard of living.
