Description
The Chrysalis Collective is a community centered approach to gender violence intervention using a transformative justice model rather than the punitive, often violent mechanisms employed by state.  Within this model,  after a rupture of violence, such as an act of sexual assault, occurs in a community, the community forms a “survivor support” team which interfaces with the survivor in order to support their self-care and recovery.  Over time, this team helps develop a separate “accountability team,” a group which works with the perpetrator over a period of time in order to intervene in toxic behaviors, educate about cisheteropatriarchy, and heal the ruptures in the community. Because the accountability and survivor teams both use a survivor-centered approach, this method has been used by many communities as an alternative to state interventions in gender violence cases, especially within marginalized communities.
