With its third issue (Spring 1950), Anvil, subtitled “A Student Anti-War Quarterly,” merged with Student Partisan, a similar magazine which had been published by the Politics Club of the University of Chicago for nine issues, from Autumn 1947 through Winter 1950. Henceforth the title formally becameAnvil and Student Partisan—still subtitled as before—but the name Anvil alone was featured on the cover. Beginning with the Summer-Fall 1954 issue, the subtitle changed to “A Student Magazine,” and with the Winter 1956 issue to “A Student Socialist Magazine."
